Meditation for Health and Healing
This course will teach you meditation techniques to help you look after and maintain your health and wellbeing. Meditation offers much for our physical and emotional health, from reducing our stress, anxiety and risk of illness, to directly energising and rejuvenating the body and maintaining the health of our organs. We will work with meditation tools known to promote our physical wellbeing, including mindfulness meditation and practices from the Tantric inner yoga tradition, such as mantra and visualisation.
Each class is held over an afternoon (either on a Saturday or a Sunday) and you can choose to do all of them, just one, or any combination, depending on what best suits you.
All classes will be taught by Zeenat and are suitable for anyone interested in meditation and in looking after their health. They will be held in the meditation house in Allerton Park.

1. Coping Effectively with Stress
We all have to deal with stress at some point, from everyday niggles to larger challenges. Meditation teaches us that we don't need to eliminate every source of stress from our lives in order to feel relaxed and balanced - this would be impossible! Rather we can use our meditation skills, particularly mindfulness, to deal more resourcefully with stress. We will look at how the stress cycle works and at how our inner reactions - our thoughts, emotions and behaviour - link together to promote stress. You will learn how to use meditation, particularly mindfulness, to break this cycle and to deal more effectively with stressful situations. Mindfulness practice connects us with our positive inner resources and helps us find emotional balance and stability even in the most challenging of situations. This class will teach you how.
2. Energising and Rejuvenating the Body
For thousands of years the yogis and meditation masters of the East have known about the deep link between the body, the mind and our energy. In this class we will work with meditations from the Tantric yoga tradition specifically designed to bring fresh energy into the body, to promote emotional balance, and to maintain the health of the organs and bodily systems. These simple tools work using visualisation, and can be done anywhere and any time, making them easy to incorporate into our daily lives.
3. Toning and Cleansing the Subtle Energy Body
In this class we work with the body's subtle energy system, including the energy centres of the body known as chakras, to bring deep levels of emotional healing and balancing. The insight of Tantric yoga, as well as Vajrayana Buddhism and Taoism, is that the body is supported by a subtle energy, arranged in layers around and within the physical form, which contains our individual consciousness and the residues of all of our past experiences and reactions. By cleansing at this subtle-body level we can begin to let go of old emotional patterns and habitual reactions that we no longer need, revitalise the body, and respond to each moment with clarity and insight. During the course there will be teaching on the chakras, each corresponding to a different level of consciousness within the body-mind, and you will learn a basic process for chakra cleansing that works with mantra and visualisation.
