Sky Gazing Meditation
Meditation isn't only done indoors sitting on a special cushion. It can be done anywhere, and being in nature supports us to go deeper within. May's meditation is one we do outdoors on a nice summer's day or evening with a clear sky. In the practice we meditate upon the sky to help us touch the still, spacious clarity we all hold within. By connecting with the freedom of the clear sky we open the way to our inner liberation.
Allow around fifteen mnutes. Lie down outdoors on the grass or a mat, or sit with your spine upright and relaxed, and your head slightly inclined, so you can gaze comfortably up at the sky. With your breathing deep and relaxed, and with a soft focus, simply gaze up at the sky. Feel as if your eyes are receiving, and that you are absorbing the sky through your eyes. (If you are doing this during the day take care not to look directly at the sun which can damage the eyes.)
When you complete the practice close your eyes for a few moments and notice how you are feeling in your body, mind and emotions.
